Why Read the Book of Revelation 

 

The book of Revelation is the revelation of Jesus Christ; it is also the mind of God.

 

Revelation 1:3 says “Blessed is he who read and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.”

Revelation was written by the Apostle John, who had been imprisoned “on the island that is called Patmos”

 

This is the same John who had seen Jesus in His gloried state on the Mount of Transfiguration, he had seen his resurrected body, and now he sees him in a vision. WOW and can stay right there and speak on the encounters of Christ.   

 

Jesus’ twofold purpose was (1) to “unveil” spiritual diagnosis for seven of the churches in Asia Minor with which John was familiar, and (2) to reveal to John a series of visions setting forth events and factors related to the end times.

The book of Revelation provides an almost complete overview of theology. There is much in the book about Christ, mankind and sin, the people of God (both the church and Israel), holy angels, and Satan and the demons. There is also important material on God’s power and trinity, plus aspects of the work of the Holy Spirit and the nature of scripture.

 

You will also notice that the number 7, which is the number of perfection, will recur throughout this book. Like the 7 Lamp stands the 7 Angels the 7 Churches the 7 Seals the 7 Trumpets and 7 golden bowls.

 

The number 7 is also the number of completeness. Revelation is the completeness of God’s blessings and the completeness of God’s judgment.

So instead of beginning your year with the things of the flesh, begin it with the things of the spirit and read the book of revelation.
